Farmer's Wife 16 - 20

Here is next set:
16 Calico Puzzle (bottom left): This was easy, but I was very tired and should have been cooking dinner, when I was doing this, so it's not so perfect...
17 Cats & Mice (top right): This was again those 16th of inch things to cut, have to be really careful.
18 Century of Progress (middle): I put this in the middle because this one is queen of this gang. I used paper piecing with freezer paper (Quiltshow episode 707) and love this technique.
19 Checkerboard (bottom right): Difficult cutting again, but I am learning...
20 Churn Dash (top left): Oh, something easy for a change, Churn Dash is one of my favourite blocks!

Farmer's Wife 11 - 15

Here are next five blocks:

11 Broken Dishes (bottom right): This was quite easy. Just a lot of HSTs.

12 Broken Sugar Bowl (middle): I should have used more vibrant yellow, because now it disappears to the background. But no worry, there is so many different blocks in this project, it doesn't matter.

13 Buckwheat (top left): This gave me headache on cutting, because there were 15/16 of inches to measure and my inches-ruler don't have so small fractions.

14 Butterfly at the Crossroads (top right): It was nice to use some pink fabric. This also had problematic cutting.

15 Buzzard's Roost (bottom left): I modified pattern, so I made all triangles with flying geese. This block (and also 13) would look better if set straight, not on point. 

Farmer's Wife 6 - 10

Here are next five blocks:
6 Big Dipper (top right). This was easy to make.
7 Birds in the Air (top left). This was tough one, so little pieces. Paper piecing would have been appropriate.
8 Bouquet (middle). This has some weirdo shapes, so I had to check the template to get accurate pieces. Pieced the top part of the block with y-seam.
9 Box (bottom left). This was easy, made with half square triangles. I used some new fabrics bought recently.
10 Bowtie (bottom right). Also easy, made same way as snowball block can be made.

Farmer's Wife

These are first five blocks for my Farmer's Wife Sampler quilt. I use book called "Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt" by Laurie Aaron Hird. There are 111 six inch blocks to make. I kind of like this six inch size. It is cute and small, but not so teeny tiny to make one frustrated. As you can see, this is going to be scrappy version. I hope to draw everything together with some nice, nearly solid sashing and borders.
I am rotary cutting and sewing by machine, although I might try paper piecing or templates and hand piecing in some blocks. And when piecing number five, bat wing (lower left corner in the picture), hand piecing would have been a good choice. I eventually managed to quick piece it sort of the way I make flying geese.
Other modifications: On number four, basket weave, arranged block little differently.

Uusi aloitus / Trying to start again

Uusi yritys blogin pitämiseen. Viimeksi homma tuntui niin hankalalta. Mutta eihän se voi olla, koska niin moni tähän pystyy. Tosin enpä ole koskaan onnistunut päiväkirjan pitämisessä, joten saas nähdä.

I try to start again blogging. Last time it felt so difficult. But it can not be, since so many people can do this. Although I never have managed to keep diary, so no high hopes on this.
